In March of 2016, I launched Losing My Sight Magazine for visually impaired and blind people, not just in Portsmouth but nationwide and even across the globe.
During the first year we published articles on so many diverse topics, ranging from local politics to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. We’ve published recipes for those who like to dabble in the kitchen, and also some inspirational stories from our readers that pulled at the heartstrings.
Our first year also saw us attend a couple of musical festivals and the Americas Cup World Series. We’ve only achieved this thanks to a great deal of hard work and commitment from the team supporting the magazine.
It is now time to look towards the future for Losing My Sight Magazine. For us, this means helping more visually impaired and blind people, and not just in Portsmouth. We want to encourage and support all people with sight loss, which is why on the 31st of March, 2017, we changed from an online publication and became a fundraising organisation, with hopes to become a registered charity within 2018.
Losing My Sight Magazine will now be able to raise funds so we can carry out projects for people with sight loss. Our main aim is to develop a strong support network to promote independence and confidence whilst living a happier life.
Our first funding was from The Big Lottery Awards For All, who kindly provided us with £9.643.00 so we could do several projects in Portsmouth through out the first year. We hope to expand these projects across the Home Counties, and, in time, take them nationwide.
All of our achievement will be reported on this website, alongside our usual magazine content. We want our readers to be able to read our articles as they are written, rather than waiting three months between every issue. This will also keep us more current to local, national and international news.
Thank you for visiting our website! We appreciate the interest in what we do, and we hope that you enjoy everything we have to offer. If you like what you see, please spread the word — better still, get involved as a volunteer by sending us your stories tips or ideas.
